THE INCREASE IN COMPUTER ANIMATION TECHNOLOGY

There are three main skills needed when it comes to
computer animation; these are modeling, rendering and
motion control. The likely associations that the majority
of humans have with computer animation are movies like The
Mask, Alien and The Polar Express. Before the 80~s
rendering was the centre of attention when it came to
computer graphics, but animation has moved on a long way
since then, even outside of film and TV.
A totally new field that has hit our radars in more recent
years is that of forensic computer animation. The main
instigation for the development of this technology was the
1985 crash of flight Delta 191.
That plane came down just one mile form the Dallas/ Fort
Worth Airport runway when it tried to land but got caught
in a very strong vortex. All 137 on board were lost.
Facing a serious financial war, with over $150 million in
lawsuits filed for wrongful death and property damage
against the Federal Aviation Administration and the National
Weather Service, they needed to find out why this incident
had happened and develop a map of events. This is where
computer animation was brought in.
The problem was that to help jurors in the courtroom
understand the complexity of the crash, the government
needed a way to walk them visually through the flight and
the crash. The answer was a computer animation
presentation that for 45 minutes, explained each detail of
the crash as evidence. With this, computer animation for
forensic study was born. If you have an interest in
computers and forensic science, perhaps computer animation
would be the ideal career choice.
