Decorating with Rugs

Subtly changing the look of your home is as easy as
decorating with rugs. Fortunately, rugs are an easy way to
update the look of your home without taking away from
current colors or designs, and often times rugs are more
affordable than other decorating elements. In addition to
this, if you move, you simply take the rugs with you. Or,
you can use them during different seasons or different areas
of your home. However, when shopping for rugs to decorate
your home you do need to keep certain tips in mind regarding
colors, patterns, location, and treatments of the rugs.
Color is important to consider when shopping for rugs
because it affects the way the room will appear. So, if you
are decorating a room that is painted a dark color, then you
might consider buying a lighter colored rug to add contrast
and open the room up a bit. Also, if you are buying rugs for
rooms that are painted bright colors or have bright colored
fabrics and furniture, then you will want to buy rugs that
are more neutral toned so as to complement the current color
scheme. However, if you are decorating a room that is
painted a light or neutral color with little or no design,
then buying a brightly colored and designed rug is a good
idea because it will give the room personality and color
immediately.
The pattern you choose when decorating with rugs is also an
important consideration. You do not want to buy a rug with a
pattern that does not blend with the other patterns in the
room. This can range from wallpaper to fabric on furniture
and even curtains. Make sure whatever design you choose
enhances the other patterns in the room. If not, the effect
will be clashing instead of enhancing.
Also, keep in mind the area in which you want to decorate
with rugs. The reason this is important is because if you
want to decorate a high traffic area as opposed to a low
traffic area then you will need a different type of rug. If
you want to decorate your childrens bedrooms with rugs,
then consider if they frequently play in their rooms with
their shoes, other children and the like. If this is the
case, a darker well designed rug that resists stains and
dirt is important. However, if you are buying rugs for your
living room then you might be able to buy a lighter colored
rug because there is less traffic. Wherever you plan on
decorating, keep in mind the amount of traffic that the rug
will be receiving.
Another point is that if you want to use rugs to decorate
your various bathrooms, you will need to buy rugs that are
specially treated for these rooms that are exposed to water.
If not, then your rugs will deteriorate faster and possibly
mildew, which is difficult to clean and smells bad.
Decorating with rugs is a great way to update your home or
simply change the look a bit, but make sure you follow these
tips in order to make the most of the rugs.
